The nomination period for the 2008 Academic All-Stars has passed. All nominations had to be received by Friday, Feb. 29.

The Fresno Bee and fresnobee.com has launched the 13th annual Academic All-Stars competition, which honors outstanding students in the central San Joaquin Valley.

The competition is an effort to shine a spotlight on children's accomplishments. Students are evaluated on academic achievement, community involvement and leadership in and outside school.

If you know a student who should be considered, please complete the form and return it to The Bee, or nominate a student online.

Students in first through 12th grades are eligible for the competition. A winner and runners-up will be recognized in each grade.

A short story will be written about each winner, and the names of all nominees will appear on fresnobee.com on May 18.

Previous winners are not eligible to be selected as All-Stars, but their names may be published as nominees.

Nominations must be received by Feb. 29.
