Chloe Doyle has a fun-sounding voice that is easy to remember.
She played a 1920s nightclub singer in “Charleston,” the Ranchos Middle School production in May. She sang the song, “Hey, Big Spender,” and tossed her hips.
Singing, however, is at the back of a long line of things she does well. She says she wants to become a psychologist when she grows up. She got the idea after studying how the brain works for the Madera County Academic Pentathlon competition.
“How God created something so complex is interesting,” she said. “I thought I’d study how people act and interact with each other.”
Chloe’s heart of compassion is the reason her teacher, Shellie Roth, nominated her for The Bee’s Academic All-Star Team.
“Chloe’s kindness is extended to all students,” Roth said.
Chloe said one of the things she is most proud of doing is giving an occasional horseback-riding lesson to a family friend, Tiffany, who has physical and mental disabilities. Chloe uses her quarter horse, Tiger Lily, because the horse is gentle and doesn’t spook easily.
Chloe, who has maintained a 4.0 GPA, also is proud of scoring a perfect 100% in the speech division of this year’s Academic Pentathlon. She spoke on algae bio-fuel, which, mixed with diesel, can power an engine. It helped power Ranchos Middle School’s team to first place.
And the other award she’s proud of? Landing a spot on The Bee’s Academic All-Star Team. She won honorable mention in the sixth and seventh grades.
