I read (The Bee July 31) where after this most recent fiasco at the Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino that the new “powers that be” are mailing out letters to “distributee” members, once again changing the makeup of those eligible to be included in the tribe. It must be nice to change the rules “as we go along” until one finally (if ever) gets it 100 percent correct.
In 1988 I personally heard from tribe member Morris Reid how this venture was to be the very best endeavor to happen to the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians and would make up for decades of despair cast upon this group. Under direction of the federal government, this tribe was to be granted vested rights that would change their lives for the better and “all” would share in this venture, positively impacting their lives.
Almost 30 years later, all I can say is that this entire mess is at best a giant piece of horse manure with the only rule being that there are no rules. Just one more example of government at its finest!
