In response to Brent Severson’s letter (July 11), yes, the law-abiding citizens have had enough! We’ve had enough of the NRA’s talking points, the gun manufacturers’ lobbyists, and “our” elected representatives that block any gun-control legislation. According to the NRA, criminals/terrorists are not deterred by gun-control laws. So why have any laws? If criminals are just going to run red lights, why have traffic regulations, or red lights at all? The facts are that laws do influence and restrict dangerous behavior.
A 2014 Indiana State University study found that prior to 9/11 most terrorists used bombs, but now high-velocity firearms are the weapon of choice. Why? They are easily obtainable, whereas bomb-making materials became more difficult to obtain and easier for law enforcement agencies to monitor after federal legislation was passed following the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995.
