The irony of Hillary Clinton’s statement that Bernie Sanders’ supporters are ‘uninformed’ is in full display in Billie MacDougall’s letter (April 23) promoting the election of a female president.
MacDougall incorrectly indicates Sanders has no idea how to pay for his proposed programs, which are supported by hundreds of prominent economists. She could have cured her ignorance on that by simply looking at Sanders’ website which spells out his programs much more specially than Mrs. Clinton’s website does hers.
Clinton’s senate career was spotty. She did some good things, but also had a thoroughly hands-off approach to Wall Street and banking regulation before the meltdown of ’08, and argued and voted for the Iraq war.
As secretary of state she presided over the mess in Libya and the overthrow of an elected government in Honduras. She promoted weapons sales and fracking all over the world, and helped write and promote a horrible trade agreement called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (which she now vaguely opposes).
Ms. MacDougall can take heart in the inevitability of a woman president. I hope it won’t be one as flawed as Bernie Sanders’ opponent in the June 7 primary.
