Rather than being a bigot, perhaps Republican presdential candidate Ben Carson is one of the few willing to say that a Muslim should not be in the White House for very good reasons: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”
How is someone who believes that to speak against Islam, Allah or Muhammad is punishable by death going to live with our First Amendment? How is someone who believes that if a child born into a Muslim family decides Islam is not right, he or she must die going to live with our First Amendment? First Amendment freedoms and the ideas of Islam are simply incongruent.
What we call dialogue and free interplay of ideas in the United States may be insulting to Islam.
