Donald Trump assures us that his superior ability and know-how will cut through the nonsense and straighten out our problems – which he says are caused by the inefficiencies of our system of government and our, “stupid” elected leaders.
He does not offer knowledgeable approaches to issues, nor understanding of their complexities. He does not demonstrate leadership skills of bringing people together, creating goodwill, and promoting collaborative problem-solving.
Quick and easy solutions to complex problems do not exist. We are entangled in international conundrums where one apparent solution creates a new – and possibly worse – problems.
Contemptuously degrading political leaders, rather than responsibly disagreeing with their policies, name-calling, denigrating ethnic groups and women, vulgarly insulting a female reporter who was simply doing her job because he didn’t like a question she asked, crude personal attacks and petty quarrels with people he doesn’t like her who disagree with him, and rudely alienating a neighboring nation, with which we need a good working relationship, are neither presidential behaviors nor examples for our young or unaware.
Political huckstering is far from political savvy, farther from statesmanship, and much farther from responsible leadership.
