David Roberts has a great idea about turning lawns into gardens. But another way to keep all of our gardeners fully employed would to ask them to convert our lawns into beautiful water-wise landscapes. They would need to receive training, but many resources are available. Since maintenance of these new landscapes would still be necessary, gardeners could remain fully employed.
Done right, a water-wise landscape is often more interesting and beautiful than a boring expanse of green lawn.
One additional benefit would be an improvement in our air quality, since lawn mowers and blowers are notorious for the amount of pollution they put into the air we breathe.
