At a recent town hall meeting, Steve Brandau touted his availability to constituents. So I sent an email to his District 2 address about a problem on my street. Nobody responded. Four days later, I sent another one. Again, nobody responded.
A week later, The Bee reported on Mr. Brandau’s new “Dam Train” billboard. I don’t appreciate his using the prestige of his office to boost the Taxpayers Association of Central California — he’s elected to serve his district, not to “partner with” any association. I also disagree with his message, but reasonable people differ.
His billboard lists a website, which includes a contact email. So I sent what I hoped was thoughtful opposition, expecting nothing.
To my surprise, Mr. Brandau responded, just six minutes later — snidely: “Thank you for my only negative comment so far.”

I tapped out another message to ask why he doesn’t respond so quickly to his District 2 email. Too many problems keeping him busy, was the gist of his answer.
But apparently not too busy to put up a billboard, talk to the press and send an immediate response about his extracurricular project. Seven hours later, his assistant finally answered my week-old email. Constituents first, right?
