I’m not sure if it’s too late to speak out about this, but the Fulton Mall should not become a roadway and parking spaces.
I understand that parking is an issue in downtown Fresno, but there are many empty plots of land downtown near Fulton Mall where parking garages can be built. This would be beneficial because it can encourage a little bit more foot traffic downtown walking to and from the parking garage to the mall. Additionally, the absence of parking in the direct vicinity of Fulton Mall can encourage more cycling/carpools/buses/other modes of transportation.
Not a lot is going on business-wise in Fulton Mall right now, but installing roadways and parking spaces inside the mall defeats the purpose of the mall and isn’t going to provide a reason for people to go downtown. The money budgeted for this reconstruction project should be used toward construction of a parking garage on another plot of land nearby. This money could also be provided to groups with ideas for businesses or other types of professional or community spaces.
I hope this project is reconsidered.
Never miss a local story.
