Last weekend we tried to take our boat to Don Pedro Dam. It was empty. Or close to it. We drove to Pine Flat in Sanger. It was maybe one-third of what it should be.
Today I drove over the Grapevine. Do you know that large reservoir at the top of the Grapevine is full? It is safe to say, follow the votes. Los Angeles has the votes, so they get the water. Fresno and the central San Joaquin Valley do not. So we get no water.
Since the Valley feeds the world, how about trading the spoils of the Valley for water? Seems like a simple quid pro quo. Food for water. No water, no food.
You want cantaloupes? You want milk from the dairies? Oranges? Lemons? Then cough up some water for the farmers. Otherwise, you can buy what comes in from Mexico — if you do not mind taking a big risk with your life and health.
Meanwhile, the boat is put away in the garage. Maybe in 2017.
