National Nursing Home Week, which begins on Mother’s Day and ends May 16, is a special time where residents, patients, caregivers, families, volunteers and staff honor and celebrate nursing homes.
This year’s theme is “Bring on the Fiesta,” and what a perfect time to visit your loved one, your friend or your neighbor. In fact, many facilities are planning week-long celebrations surrounding this theme, in honor of this special week.
For a moment, put away the impersonal distractions of a smartphone, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and make the personal connection to a loved one. If you are unable to visit in person, take time and send a card, make a call or send flowers to make a positive and meaningful outcome in the lives of a nursing home resident and the staff that work daily to make a difference in those we serve.
If you are not a regular visitor to a nursing home or long-term care facility, you can find information by visiting these websites: California Association of Health Facilities, www.CAHF.org or American Health Care Association, www.AHCA.org.
