Two excellent letters were published in The Bee on the same day, May 3!
I had to make sure I was reading the right editorial page, as they encouraged me to hope I was amongst open-minded, thinking people!
But, alas, as I went online to respond, I read all the same old comments by our same old narrow-minded Valley population!
William Hill, in “What we share with ISIS,” so eloquently discusses how we don’t have the desire to coexist peacefully and our “mentally gated” communities ...”culminate in abject prejudice and attacking ... of anyone not sharing the same beliefs.” This intolerance and hate is no different than that of ISIS! The herd mentality is alive and well!
Charlie Moore, in discussing the Baltimore mother slapping her son while he rioted, was articulate in asking whether we will ever truly address poverty, school dropouts, high unemployment, prison populations and police brutality. Apparently the beliefs of brotherhood of man, tolerance of opinions and equal opportunities exist on the surface — they sound good, but we don’t live them!
