I laughed out loud when I read that Gov. Jerry Brown proposed fining water wasters up to $10,000 per violation.
If he is truly serious about assessing fines at that level, Gov. Brown had better develop a program similar to what California lawmakers are considering for traffic violations, wherein people who violate the law are required to pay a fine based upon their income levels and ability to pay.
If we are afraid that a traffic fine will result in a driver losing his license, then we should be equally afraid that a water-wasting fine will adversely affect a homeowner’s ability to take a shower.
