We are adding a large master bedroom to my home in central Fresno. We hired a legit contractor and pulled permits with the city in January.
On April 16 we got a friendly visit from Code Enforcement and two uniformed Fresno police officers. All three came onto the property confronting the workers demanding to see our building permits. One contractor asked the uniformed officers under what authority they were entering the property without the homeowner present. The response was pointing to his vest stating he is the police. Lovely.
There is no record of them being here with Fresno Police Department Watch Commander. Yet they were seen by 12 security cameras and five witnesses. Four or five phone calls to Code Enforcement have gone unanswered. Just voice mail. The officers also were seen looking in the garage and workshop.
So we live in a city where they barge onto your property demanding the obvious. Obviously the code officer didn’t call on her city phone to see if permits were pulled before they stormed onto private property.
This is what we get for paying $7,000 in property taxes and living in Fresno. Cameras are great!
