On Feb. 15 the House of Representatives voted yes to gutting the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). According to Resources for Independence Central Valley, House Resolution 620 would do the following:
▪ Shifts the burden of enforcement to people with disabilities by requiring them to be accessibility experts.
▪ Removes any incentive for voluntary compliance.
▪ Rewards non-compliance by allowing businesses generous additional timelines.
Never miss a local story.
Ignores the extensive, free educational resources already available to any business on how to comply with the ADA.
▪ Ignores the effective and extensive methods already available to courts and state bar association to deal with unscrupulous attorneys.
I fear this is just the beginning! Please join me and others in supporting the civil rights of people with disabilities by writing to and/or calling (202) 224-3121 our U.S. Senators and urging them to vote NO on HR 620.
