On April 16, after visiting my son’s final resting place, I went to the Visalia Mall to look for a chain for my mother-and-child cameo locket.
I spoke with a kiosk business owner about my future interest in purchasing something there in honor of my son. He asked me how my son had died and I told him that my son (Anthony Christopher De La Torre) was gunned down on April 11, 2011, while walking on a street in Fresno, and died on April 16, 2011. His murder remains unsolved.
He asked me if I would join him for a cup of coffee. I was about to say no but I heard my son telling me to accept this kind offer, so I did.
After he bought our drinks, he listened to my memories of my son, offered me words of comfort and told me about his family. Thank you Z. Hoque (Creative Printing and Engraving) for the cup of chai tea and especially for taking time to comfort a grieving mom.
Never miss a local story.
