With the drought and all the talk about upgrading our water system, I am baffled that California, and the city and county of Fresno do not follow Colorado and legalize, regulate and heavily tax cannabis. Yes I said the dirty word. The general public may not understand, but people want to go to the store and buy a gram or two of cannabis to enjoy at night and relax after a hard day’s work just like some do with alcohol.
The tax money taken in can be used to address our water system and help if not pay for all upgrades. California has the best environment in the world to grow outdoor cannabis and, yes, it takes water but no more then a tomato plant or almond tree if it is irrigated responsibly with drip irrigation. Remember I said regulate!
Colorado is expected to take in $134 million this year in taxes from cannabis. California could double that amount very easily.
To think that what we are doing with cannabis is stopping people from using it is silly. Let’s take advantage of the potheads and do some good with it instead of continuing a “reefer madness” mentality.
Never miss a local story.
