The April 19 edition of The Bee described some of the drought related water restrictions facing the City of Clovis. We know that the hard times are rapidly approaching. What we don’t know is if the impact of those restrictions will be applied equally to everyone.
I am a gardener. Watching my trees, flowers and vegetables dry up and die will be very hard. It will be even more stressful if I know that the city is issuing building permits resulting in new water hookups. Issuing permits to build new swimming pools or refill existing ones would seem to be particularly unreasonable at this time. We would prefer that it was someone else’s ox being gored.
Building permits and business licenses are an important source of revenue for our city governments. Car washes are a convenient fundraising activity for the public at large. Should a family of six be allotted six times the amount of water available to a single person living on the same size property? The controversy has just started!
