The Bee really needs to hire a copy editor, assuming the breed hasn’t gone extinct.
The March 29 “Fresno Famous” feature on Dr. John Ambrose reported that singing has been a passion “for he and his wife,” and went on to report that he “has sang” for baseball fans.
Languages are in constant flux, and many expressions previously considered inappropriate in standard written English have now become acceptable, but deviations like “for he” and “has sang” are probably not among them. Similar deviations appear so frequently in The Bee that I have come to wonder whether the writers are out of touch. Or am I?
