What happened to the Red Wave? The answer is simple. They have died.
I remember back in the day when Selland Arena was filled to overflowing with the community rooting their Bulldogs on to victory against University of Nevada at Las Vegas and San Jose State. Then the price for seats started escalating, essentially leaving the newly graduated alumni and public left out. The Red Wave enjoyed their prime seats and the “poor” fans stayed home.
Today, those Red Wavers have gone on to the big arena in the sky, and their seats are empty. The general public, who could now afford to buy season tickets, have been left out for so long they have lost interest.
Additionally, it can’t be ignored that Fresno State needs a winning basketball season. Perhaps if the basketball program weren’t riddled with drama of players being ineligible, leaving the team or other circumstances that render them unable to play, there might be more supporters willing to go to games, excited to see the Bulldogs win on a consistent basis.
I’ve probably stepped on someone’s toes, but it’s the truth.
Don’t blame the lack of support on the fans; the real fans were forgotten and will have to be won back.
