The Red Wave may be endangered but it is far from extinct.
More than 100 people, including 20 from the Bulldog Band, traveled to Moraga, three hours each way, to cheer on the Fresno State women’s basketball team March 23.
Going on a fan bus is great fun, and we were joined by others who drove themselves. Our raucous enthusiasm produced some smiles of appreciation from the players but, unfortunately, St. Mary’s and the frustrating referees outdid us.
Regarding the men’s basketball team, I think a deterrent to attendance is the $10 parking fee at Save Mart Center. When that is added to the price of tickets plus snacks for a family of four, it gets pretty expensive, especially when you want to attend multiple games during the season.
Never miss a local story.
How about a family package including tickets, parking and food? No doubt a consistently winning team would be more of a draw, but hey, these are our Bulldogs and we need to support the players and coaches who give their all to the game and the fans.
I personally have a problem with the discriminatory policy of searching women’s purses at entry, while men enter without any inspection of jackets.
