There were two confounding front-page articles in The Bee on March 14. One reported that the state government is exercising its right to confiscate private property in order to continue construction of the $75 billion-plus high-speed rail boondoggle, which time and again has been shown to be a financial disaster in the making.
The other is a report showing that an Audi Q-5 crossover car, will venture off on a 3,500 mile cross country road trip — without a driver! A car developed by Delphi Automotive, a non-government subsidized private company that is reporting the car will be available for purchase by the general public in the next decade.
So, my choices are: Have the pleasure of leaving my home, sitting back and enjoying the scenery on a cross country trip in the comfort of my own autonomously “chauffeured” vehicle or drive to a train terminal, park my car, purchase a ticket for passage on an antiquated public transportation system that is attached to a piece of iron that is nailed to the ground.
Hmmm ... give me the Audi any day!
Never miss a local story.
