In response to “Dead dog isn’t news” (letter March 17): News is reserved for current topics, not topics that have been dead for a good deal of time.
While I agree that abortion isn’t great and it should be addressed, becoming upset that the newspaper is reporting on something the people of Fresno, especially sports-oriented and college-age students, care about, is misguided.
Early on in journalism class, we learn that the general public needs both soft and hard news. It’s their responsibility to provide both to us and not constantly bombard us with the same hard news story over and over. That would simply be bad reporting.
Bringing the topic of abortion into the news constantly is a wasted effort. There will always be people who oppose abortion, and there will always be people who want a choice.
Never miss a local story.
It is impossible to get everyone to agree to one side or the other. We have come to the point in our country where everyone is free to practice their own beliefs about abortion, therefore deeming it news no longer.
