Regarding the front page article in The Bee on March 18, “Congress mulls park funding,”: What a sad state of affairs when Congress can appropriate $3 billion a year to Israel, which has a nuclear arsenal, is noted for being the largest weapon dealer in the world, continues endless wars and can barely continue with diplomacy in this grief-stricken war torn world funded mostly by U.S. taxpayers.
I want my taxes to go to the wastewater plant at Yosemite, to the Lodgepole Campground’s water treatment facility, to the maintenance backlog which is overwhelming in our parks, to buying and preserving more land.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg of all the things I wish for our society. I want a Department of Peace, money for education, for all the things a peaceful society would need to thrive.
We’re in dire straits with the priorities our elected representatives are choosing for us. Call your representatives and tell them what you need and want in our community, our state, our country.
