Recent editorials about accessing court records online and the costs charged by some courts for downloading documents are timely.
The Fresno Superior Court will launch the new Odyssey case-management system on April 13 to centralize case records and replace two systems currently operating separately for criminal and civil matters. Odyssey will expand electronic access to court records for individuals and organizations conducting business with our court.
Using the search portal and printing case records from a personal printer will be free. To safeguard privacy, however, records containing highly sensitive personal information or those protected by laws will not be accessible. For general searches, the portal will not require a log in. Organizations currently authorized to receive specific case documents will complete an easy registration to access these records quickly and without cost.
It will take time for the Odyssey case management system to electronically convert approximately 4.4 million existing case files, retaining the original case numbers. For that reason, electronic case management and searches will be unavailable April 1-10.
Upon successful implementation of Odyssey, everyone should be able to download court records beginning on April 13. More information will be available at www.fresno.courts.ca.gov or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
