John Barrere (letter March 17) may, indeed, have paid 3 cents per gallon on his February bill, but only if he used 450 gallons for the month, with a bill of $13.88. The average household paid 24 cents a gallon for 8,468 gallons, with a bill of $20.40 for the month. This is about 10 times the the .023 cents a gallon that $1,000 per acre-foot water costs, but still incredibly cheap.
Good citizenship is the only incentive we need to conserve resources.
