America has always had a delicate dance with Israel. The recent idiocy with the House has heavily damaged the relationship. One hundred and eighty Israeli officials, including retired generals and three ex-heads of Mossad, warned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to go around President Obama and address the House. Obama did not want him to come here so close to an election, yet the House figured they knew better.
Many borderline Israeli voters now see Netanyahu as even more reckless with good reason. Now he is likely to lose the election, making the House action beyond simply damaging, but stupid. They have pushed borderline voters against him.
It’s another example of extremely shortsighted GOP political tactics crushing long-term strategic advantages.
The recent letter to Iran saying the GOP could later reverse any decision is even worse. It’s always true that the next president and Congress could reverse decisions, should Congress always send put letters to foreign leaders telling them to avoid making deal with one party because the other party could later change the agreements?
Netanyahu isn’t my favorite; I’m glad they are so shortsighted.
