I read with great interest Brooke Ashjian’s opinion piece (March 11) concerning a trade school in Fresno. I agree that it is time for a trade school in the Fresno Unified School District. But his apparent criticism of Duncan Polytechnic High School is misplaced. It is not the function of FUSD to actively find jobs for its students.
Before Mr. Ashjian criticizes Duncan Polytechnic he probably should do some research of his own. I have been receiving interns from Duncan Polytechnic High School for well over 15 years now. Some of them have gone on to be hired in my law firm.
It would perhaps aid Mr. Ashjian in his representation of Area 7 if he got out into the field and found out what the real world of student life is like. As a criminal defense attorney, I’m not surprised at all with the conditions that he referenced that some students are in.
The fact that Mr. Ashjian was surprised is itself surprising. His ideas are sound, but his background is lacking. I agree, let’s get together as a community and unite with a common purpose to “correct our course and become our brother’s keeper once again.”
Never miss a local story.
