The 50th anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” in Selma, Alabama, calls attention to the fact that Jim Crow is still alive and well in places like Ferguson, Missouri, and elsewhere in our “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.”
It is alive and well in 31 Republican controlled states that have passed voter suppression laws under the guise of preventing voter fraud, a nonexistent problem in any of those 31 states. These cynical laws are designed to disproportionately block African Americans and others who are more likely to vote Democratic than Republican from registering and voting.
It is also alive and well with five partisan Republicans on the U. S. Supreme Court who voted to allow this shameful practice to go forward.
It’s Jim Crow redux. Caring, thinking, Republicans everywhere are, or should be, ashamed of their party’s blatantly unAmerican behavior.
