If it weren’t so sad it would be funny. Columnist Victor Davis Hanson and letter writer Michael Der Manouel Sr. spreading doom and gloom on the same page that Mark Arax wrote his excellent article on the runners of McFarland.
I would imagine that a good portion of them were and are illegal aliens. Hardworking, honest, strong and family oriented. Just the kind of people who will make good citizens.
Mr. Hanson writes “America is not a multicultural society where appearance is essential to our characters, but a uniquely multiracial nation bound by common values where race becomes secondary.”
Really, Mr. Hanson? Your columns gives the lie to this statement. The mention of ethnic groups who come to take jobs, wages and services of the poor and working classes. This tells us who you are talking about. Most of us “U.S. citizens” are not attracted to field work, motel service, care giving, etc. Most importantly, the majority of us are too out of shape to do manual labor 8 to 10 hours a day.
Never miss a local story.
I saw “McFarland, USA” and I recommend it to everyone who thinks the country is in trouble.
