In response to Jess Sanchez Barroso’s Mar. 2 letter: Wal-Mart’s failure to pay its workers enough money, according to Forbes online magazine, cost the U.S. taxpayer $6.2 billion in public assistance.
Some of this assistance is in the form of food stamps. Some of that assistance was spent by Wal-Mart employees in Walmart.
I will gladly pay higher prices, if it reduces poverty and dependence on the government. Our tax dollars are needed elsewhere. We can pay low prices, but what is the human cost? What is the cost on our society?
