As parents, we all cringe at the news when it concerns the life of a child.
I am fortunate that nothing very serious ever happened to one of my own children. I was a working mother who God blessed with mercy!
Sadly, there were two recent cases where children were seriously harmed. The first was the three children of Vanessa Brown, who were left alone and locked in while their mother went to the store. There was a fire in their apartment and although the children were rescued by firefighters, they suffered from smoke inhalation.
In the second case, an 8-year-old child was shot by her sister, age 10. Their father, a sheriff’s deputy, had left a gun on his bed while he was getting ready for work.
Never miss a local story.
The injuries to the children in these cases were the result of something one of their parents did or failed to do.
Vanessa Brown was arrested and jailed. Yet a parent in the other family, where the child was shot, was treated with respect and compassion.
I would like to believe that justice is blind. The different handling of these cases tells me otherwise.
