“Atlas Shrugged” is the most inspirational book that I have read. It was published byRand in 1957. I heard about it in the 1960s by a radio commentator, Mort Saul, in Southern California.
It is a work of fiction, a book you can’t put down. I propped it up in the kitchen while I was cooking.
The theme of “Atlas Shrugged,” as Ms. Rand described it, is “the role of man’s mind in existence.” She explores a number of philosophical themes. She expresses the advocacy of reason, individualism, capitalism and the failures of governmental coercion. If that sounds boring, it isn’t!
She writes beautifully, the characters come alive and there is a bit of a love story. It is amazing how this book parallels what is going on now in our country. Big government, the demonizing of the successful, transfer of wealth, etc. In a previous letter, I recommended the book to the Obama Administration.
