In response to The Bee’s online article (Feb. 12), “Fighting Roosters” found on Lincoln Avenue: Cock fighting is illegal in Fresno County and elsewhere. However, it is still legal in many countries like Mexico.
Roosters fighting is a natural act. Anyone who has chickens knows you cannot have roosters in the same cage because they fight, many times to the death. Old Mexican movies show film stars singing with a mariachi in corrals where roosters are to fight, and many viewers gamble on the roosters.
This is part of the culture of many folks in Mexico and many other countries. It has recently been outlawed in some states here in the U.S. While many folks may consider it cruel, cock fighting and bullfights are part of the Mexican culture.
Many could say a lot of what we see on TV is worse, like cage fighting. and soon, “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
Never miss a local story.
