The “solution” supported by The Bee editorial board and the FCC through “net neutrality” is a big government bureaucratic solution to a problem that does not exist. It sprang up when Netflix made unjustified accusations against AT&T and Comcast in an attempt to get better contract terms. No ISP would want to slow speed on the Internet. In fact, their incentive is for faster access for their customers.
The Internet is one of the best free-market examples of unfettered access and innovative opportunities in our lifetimes. What the FCC wants to do is regulate and tax the Internet so that they have the power, the control and the tax money that this would provide. This is a simple power grab, nothing more. The Internet is not a common carrier. It is a huge collection of folks providing services to the entire population of the world essentially for free. No one owns it and no one is in charge of it except volunteers. All we pay for is access (the keys to the front door).
It will be a huge mistake to give control of the Internet to the FCC. We will never get it back!
