I read the (Jan. 25) article on Walmart’s opening at Ashlan and Blackstone avenues in Fresno and a quote by the spokesperson for Walmart, Delia Garcia, who stated that this was an area that needed a boost.
It’s amazing how they see one area needing a boost and yet, after sending Walmart’s former CEO Mike Duke several letters from the Golden Westside Planning committee asking for a Walmart to be built in southwest Fresno, an area that has been left behind in economic development and planning from our city leaders, we continue to be ignored.
This is a community with several thousand people welcoming the opportunity to have a Walmart Supercenter that would add to the revitalization in our community along with the new Gaston Middle School.
Walmart says that “Saving people money so that they can live better” was the vision of founder Sam Walton. Is that just for certain communities within a city? There is a Walmart in every community in Fresno except southwest Fresno. Why is that?
