On Jan. 11, around 5 p.m., in the Save Mart at Shaw and Armstrong avenues in Clovis, a lady unknown to me paid for my groceries — about $40 worth. I was so shocked that I think I forgot to thank her.
Never, ever, in my whole life did I think that such a thoughtful event would happen to me. Here I sit in a handicap motorized shopping cart in the checkout line waiting to pay for my groceries and an angel pops up from nowhere with this surprise.
I do believe that she thought I needed free groceries after looking at this 84-year-old man, not well attired, with a 4-day-old beard. I think she could see in my eyes or face that I must have lost my best friend, or some other bad event had transpired. She was nearly correct because my wife was getting ready to leave me for heavens. She passed away Jan. 13.
God bless you. If we meet again, the dinner tab would be on me.
Never miss a local story.
