Recently California Rep. Nancy Pelosi was quoted in the Huffington Post when discussing gun control: the subject of so-called assault weapons, saying, “I don’t know what the justification is for an assault weapon. What do you need it for, right?”
Frankly, I get very nervous when our lawmakers believe they can dictate to us what we “need” or conversely, what we don’t “need.” If you Google The Communist Creed, the definition pops up as the statement popularized by Karl Marx, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
I’m not sure how she defines “assault weapons,” but from an unbiased view, an AR-15 is a .22 caliber, semi-automatic rifle. I inherited a Mossberg .22-caliber semi-automatic rifle from my father-in-law over 20 years ago. He had this gun from his youth. Is this how Rep. Pelosi defines “assault weapon?”
If you want to lower the murder/crime rate by banning something, try banning probation and parole. If you need more jails and prisons, build them, and send me the bill.
