The only ‘simplistic nonsense’ I’ve read lately is Michael Freeman’s recent letter (Jan.11). How else can you reconcile his description of an “anemic recovery” with the economic facts — robust growth of 5% since June, record stock market over 18,000, 3 million jobs created in 2014 alone, and deficits cut in half. All this with not one Republican finger lifted to help this President or this country — not on stimulus, not on jobs bills, not on auto industry, not on health care reform.
If you accept the GOP premise that everything that goes wrong is President Obama’s fault, then fair play says that when things go right he deserves credit for policies that have put America back on top.
For people who say America is headed in the wrong direction, I was reminded by a friend of the reply to Bill Clinton’s critics in the 90’s — which part are you upset with? The peace or the prosperity?
The easiest way to settle this question is to ask people what President Reagan put simply — are you better off now than you were six years ago when President Obama took office? Seriously? Case closed.
