Not once, in my life, have I ever seen a police officer talking to a homeless person. Has no one in the Fresno Police Department heard of “community-oriented” or “service style” policing?
In criminal-justice classes, I learned that law enforcement was not for those wanting to change things. It was for those who could follow orders without question. It would be a lot safer for an officer to confront a homeless person than it would be for anyone else. Wouldn’t it?
It would only take a small amount of effort for an officer on patrol to direct someone to the nearest shelter or food bank.
FPD: You were hired to be public servants. Do try and focus more on assisting those in need (they are not hard to find), rather than rounding up petty criminals and handing out outrageously expensive tickets. You can do much better.
Never miss a local story.
