In speaking with college students and reading about the difficult burden repaying student loans continues to be, I propose that a thorough revamping of this program be undertaken.
Why should a recent graduate trying to establish a foothold in life be saddled with heavy debt right after receiving a diploma? Many social aid programs fund efforts to put people back to work, while young adults (usually) who have demonstrated the discipline to earn a shot at good employment are paying back debt for years.
I would like to see, among many changes, a tiered program that lowers interest rates and principle sums as each year of college is completed. The big reduction would come upon graduation and not before. We all want educated citizens as we move forward as a world leader, so don’t require debt and lost opportunity as a prerequisite to that end.
