Until reading Cal Thomas’ piece on former President Clinton, I thought Mr. Thomas was a political columnist. I was wrong. Clearly Mr. Thomas is a gossip columnist. Though I voted for President Clinton, I was angry and disappointed in his lies and evasions about Monica Lewinsky; and disturbed by his long history of sexual acting out in cheap and sleazy relationships.
Unfortunately, the persuasive methods Mr. Thomas used are also cheap and sleazy. He says the reports of the “orgies” are “alleged,” but then says “there are no claims” Clinton “participated” in them “(yet).” There also are no claims (yet) that I or Mr. —Thomas did, or a few billion other people. If I said, “There was no proof that [insert enemy’s name] has viewed child porn,” that would technically be true. But the intent is to pair an individual with a highly charged negative, and this is how negative gossip works – and it does work.
What Mr. Thomas has written is really an attack on Hillary Clinton. You can hate one, or both Clintons, but a responsible journalist would not resort to this sort of innuendo. It’s time to retire Mr. Thomas and find someone who stays closer to verified information.
