I read with great interest Charles McCarthy's story ("Speak Now," Aug. 19) on Chukchansi tribal efforts to preserve and revitalize their language. It was fascinating to learn how Chukchansi elders and modern technology have come together to save an ancient language -- one of the original languages of this region.
I consider myself very lucky and privileged to have heard this beautiful language spoken, on occasions, by Jane Wyatt and several other Chukchansi elders. It's a gentle language, befitting the people who speak it. I thank all native people who labor selflessly for the preservation of tribal languages. Future generations will certainly celebrate their incredible contributions.
