In response to Bob Francque (letter April 16), I quote the U.S. Postal Service when it promises that, "The Forever stamp will always be valid as first-class postage on standard envelopes weighing one ounce or less, regardless of any subsequent increases in the first-class rate." His claim the Postal Service will redefine a one-ounce letter is a non-issue.
I remember paying 85 cents for a gallon of gasoline when stamps cost 22 cents. Now that same gallon of gas costs more than $3, while stamps have not even doubled in price in the same period. And I submit a challenge to any American to find a cheaper way to get a one-ounce letter from here to a soldier in Iraq. You can't even get that same letter across town for less than 41 cents.
In a world where people can spend $5 on a cup of coffee, I find it comical that these same consumers have the audacity to complain about two cents.
Never miss a local story.
