Another National Day of Prayer will be upon us in May.
After last year's events (one at City Hall and one at the courthouse), I wrote Mayor Alan Autry, urging that he have one such service for this diverse religious community. I still have not received a response.
The mayor has, on many occasions, spoken of a divided economic community, but he has been hypocritical in not realizing he is dividing the city religiously.
I personally have always liked the mayor, and he has made many fine moves for a better community, but on this issue he should set aside his personal religious beliefs, demonstrate leadership and respect the full rainbow of religions in our community.
Let's have one grand National Day of Prayer which shows off all religions. What a beautiful city event this would be.
