“Propaganda 1928,” a book by Edward Bernays, the father of public relations, begins with this quote, “The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society.
“Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government, which is the true ruling power of our country. We are governed, our minds are molded ... ideas suggested, largely by men we have never heard of.”
Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Jack Kennedy and Sens. William Jenner and Daniel Inouye all warned the public of a secret government, “deep state” manipulating the direction of our country.
In recent times, whistleblowers, some from government agencies. have spoken out of love of country at great risk to themselves to enlighten the public on what is going on in their name, how continually we have been misled with lies on false threats to support illegal, aggressive wars, thus creating enemies through our own actions.
If ever was a time to study other countries’ histories, cultures, politics, to educate ourselves, it’s now. Question sound bites and over-rated pundits when “news” isn’t based on facts. It determines our future.
To forever continue in perpetual war is senseless.
