We read in the July 28th issue of The Bee that Councilmember Garry Bredefeld of District 6 is now working to allow city employees to carry firearms while on the job – a proposal that the mayor, police chief, and president of the Fresno City Employees Association all reject. The mayor is even on record as saying if the proposal were to somehow pass the city council, he would veto the measure.
As a resident of District 6 and constituent of Bredefeld’s, I ask him to stop pursuing such controversial proposals that do not immediately improve the lives of those in his district he is supposed to represent. Instead of pushing a dead-on-arrival plan for city employees or any other issue that Bredefeld can get his hands on for both the illusion of accomplishment and to get his name in the headlines, I challenge him to tackle some of the real problems that he ran on to gain our votes and support to better the lives of his constituents: improving public safety, working to end homelessness and building more parks.
