For several years, I have been aware of the dismal condition of the roads in Fresno’s older neighborhoods, as voiced in Chip Williams’ eloquent letter (July 1). While not knowing the amount of monies available for city roads annually, what is clear is that we have been let down by our city government, which seems to have prioritized everything other than street maintenance.
Daily driving on streets south of Shaw Avenue is indeed a jolting experience, as 40 or 50 years of neglect takes its toll.
I recently had to replace the tires on my car at 12,000 miles and I’m sure the degraded surfaces that I encounter daily were the main culprit. Thankfully, my tire company was able to pro-rate them, and I received some settlement out of it.
Please, Fresno leaders, figure out how to resurface our streets before we are categorized as the city with the worst surface roads in California. You owe it to your citizens and the cars that we drive.
Never miss a local story.
