I understand Ilda Meacham’s frustration (letter June 12) regarding a sick and abandoned dog. I found an old dog with no tags or chip wandering my neighborhood. She was in wretched condition.
At my expense, I took her to Cedar Vet Hospital (wonderful staff). After an exam and blood work, she was prescribed thyroid medication, an antibiotic and medicinal shampoo for the skin infection. Cushing’s Disease was also suspected.
I housed her in my bathroom (“training” pads covered the floor) as she was incontinent, had not been house trained and had dementia. I fed, cared for her and took her outside every day. She spent time with me and my four other rescued dogs.
With love and after many tears, she crossed the “rainbow bridge” after two months.
How does a human being allow a pet to suffer and get to this point? There is a place for people like this. I believe it is called hell.
